On the day, grab a table with friends, old and new, and all order at the same time from the bar. Enjoy a drink or seven, and your food should arrive around the same time. We have a couple special guest, fewer speeches, and the chance to celebrate the hard work of 2021 while looking forward to occupancy of our shed in early 2022. The Inaugural Annual General Meeting of the Melville Community Mens Shed (MCMS) was advertised in the MCMS October 2021 Newsletter and Nominations called for all positions in accordance with the Melville Community Mens Shed Inc Rules. Prior to this time the MCMS has been managed by a Steering Committee which will be dissolved at this meeting.

from Men's Shed of WA  We are pleased to invite all Men’s Sheds throughout WA, stakeholders and community groups to our state Conference. With the theme of ‘Inclusive Thriving Sheds’, the Conference will challenge delegates to leverage the diversity of the volunteering sector and harness its power to address some of the most significant issues faced by the community. Delegates will be inspired to explore the opportunities and challenges that we face in creating a sustainable WA men’s shed movement into the future. Wanneroo Community Mens Shed Visit Bruce Wright, Greg Fletcher and Garry Mason visited the Wanneroo Community Mens Shed (1/31 Creative Street, Wangara) on Friday 1 October 2021 and met with Des Abbot(Chairman) and Gavin McIntosh.   The building is wholly owned by the Wanneroo Mens Shed and accommodates, wood working, computer repairs, computer refurbishment for sale and the recycling of computer parts and materials (sold to various recyclers for income for the Shed).   It is a two-story factory unit with reception area, office, computer workshop, woodworking area, computer parts recycling area, toilets, lunch room, First Aid and bed area as well as garaging for their own truck on the ground floor.Upstairs is the administration area, meeting area, and storage on the mezzanine areas. 11 car parking bays are included on the property.  There is also a chair lift on the stairs for those who require assistance.   Membership is approximately 80 with 50 to 60 regular attendees. Woodworking is undertaken on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays and computer related activities on Tuesdays and Fridays.  This is to address the dust conflict issues between woodworking and computer work.   They reinforced the very high importance of establishing and maintaining a very close contact with Federal and State Government Local Members as well as Councilors of the Local Government Authority.     They also reinforced the need to establish close relationships with various building material suppliers, particularly to aid in the building fitout and renovation requirements.   Dr Anne Aly (Federal Member for Cowan) is their Patron.

He is Treasurer and Admin as can drive a computer like Lewis Hamilton drives F1  We had a tour that generated some more questions- and provided the opportunity for both Eric and myself to take many photos.   I took some notes and hope they make some sense to others:  - FMCS uses Microsoft Access for details of members, accounts, (the MS Access is available free via MS philanthropic portal)   - www.ConnectingUp.org is another good resource site - FMCS has 375 members TOTAL     *$135 per year for full members      * 44 are Associates (= women) - Safety docs are from MSWA site       - Jaxon sent me the link  - new members attend Induction  - held on  M-W-S plus individual machine training  - Badge Board is use - Bunnings Bunnings Bunnings - Dr Rob Loss wrt Dust Extraction - consider work Bench heights/ on wheels when setting up. - Comply with DDI access - Digital keypads with PIN code is better than 4 million keys - Pallet lifter / Forklift access too - Library - hard / soft versions - Saw Stop table saw is excellent - 5 stops in 2 1/2 years - FMCS provide Graffiti removal for CoF - 3 men on Tuesdays - make $12k year.  

A visit was held at the Manning Men's Shed (South Perth)       3 Downey Dr, Manning (off Ley Street) https://manning.mensshedswa.org.au Starting at 9 am - Morning tea was provided. There was a guided tour and an open discussion on what worked and what didn't. This shed is a part of their Senior Citizens Centre and is not separately incorporated. This shed has about 200m2 of floor space. - Approximately half that of Hayden Court so will be a good example of what can be squeezed in. Some notes: - 123 members at End of FY - with about 80 active - Annual Fee = $60 - Operate on days only/ men - conduct3 satlls per year selling goods - only accept donations for works - thus no GST - employ a Buddy system for new members using equipment - and " Dont Know, Dont Touch" - have Shed managers/ Supervisors - have scanner codes on Members badges - maintain a Capital Fund and a Maintenance Fund

The Piney lakes Community Garden Open day Held on the 13th Aug Hi Everyone Just to fill you in on the results of the Friday open day at Piney lakes Community Garden. It was an excellent day to be down at the garden centre, the sun was shining, and the birds were singing, a warm beautiful day with several people turning up and participating. Based on site discussions it was agreed that the Melville shed should proceed with the Joint Venture arrangement with the Piney lakes garden centre. Therefore, I will be initiating a $30 payment for Plot No2 for our shed use and along with any other facilities utilised by the nominated Melville Shed members As part of the JV arrangement these people will need to be given a brief induction in to Garden Protocols, Gate password code & OH&S procedure at the Garden The following Shed members have expresses interest in using the Garden (as a Special interest Group) Peter Zappa,      Greg Fletcher,   Bruce Wright, to use the Allotment plot area Any other members interested, feel free register and to Participate Allan James is the Garden Contact for site Induction please Phone 0421 1676 015 to make a mutually suitable time.   On the same day, a discussion was initiated on the setting up a beekeeping at the garden centre and Cathy day offered to check with the Melville council for any registration or compliance issues. Unfortunately, it was found the Piney lakes area is zones as a “Bushland Forever” area and the Honeybee is considered a Feral species that can have effect on the native bee and therefore a program would not be considered compatible to this Garden environment However, we have the good fortune to have a member, David Wheatley. ph. 0407 443 598.   David has offered to be a technical advisor/team leader for any shed member interested in domestic beekeeping David also has a Garden plot at the centre and has been a successful beekeeper for the last 25 years with 3 productive beehives at his home The following members expressed Beekeeping interest on the day - Brian Hodges, Eric Hartley & Gavin Waugh so please keep in touch with David Wheatley for any future activities.
